As the years have gone on, our values have matured and we’ve been led by God to different projects, primarily in mental health, The Motherhood Group is exactly that, a social enterprise that really promotes Black Maternal Mental Health. Unfortunately, their brand wasn’t up to scratch, and so RUDE were hired to create a whole new brand identity.
BRIEF
The Motherhood Group initially aimed to enhance their existing website, but after sitting down with them, we realized the issue went beyond that. The logo needed revitalization, and the brand as a whole was missing the personality it deserved. Despite being a company and a social enterprise, it lacked the vibrancy that was evident from our very first call with founder Sandra, whose personality was full of joy and love.
Our goal became clear: we needed to merge the two—creating a brand that reflects both the strong foundation of Sandra’s maternal experience and her vibrant, fun, and professional personality.
PROCESS
The old logo was overpowering and too wide, so we needed to make it more adaptable across various applications. To address this, RUDE condensed the logo by turning “THE” on its side and placing “GROUP” underneath, drawing the focus entirely to “Motherhood.” After all, the brand is ultimately about Motherhood—not “the” or “group.”
While the logo we had built was strong, we also wanted its essence to shine through as a symbol, so we designed an “M” filled with hearts and then incorporated that into the logo. These hearts can also stand alone without the “M.” The idea was to have the “M” of Motherhood symbolize being full of hearts and full of love.
RESULTS
RUDE continues to collaborate with The Motherhood Group on all campaigns and social media efforts. We developed a custom website for them and remain dedicated to keeping it fresh and engaging, while The Motherhood Group does their incredible work, driving change for Black mothers in the UK and beyond.
